Diversity Services - Youth

Diversity Workshops
Diversity workshops can be tailored for youth and adults. Past participants have included high school and elementary school students, youth groups and after-school youth programs, youth workers, teachers, SWIS workers, volunteers, school administrative staff and municipal staff.

Neonology and Neonology 2.0 are workshops designed for high school and elementary school students. The workshop uses activities and games to unpack and discuss topics such as bullying, diversity and how to create a more welcoming classroom and community.

Neonology Legacy is a diversity workshop designed for teachers, youth workers, SWIS workers, school administration staff and anyone who may work with newcomer youth. Through interactive games and discussion pieces, the workshop creates dialogue around issues that newcomer youth may face and encourages professionals to share and discuss how they support the youth they encounter.

Neonology Leadership
The Neonology Leadership crew is for students living on the North Shore who are passionate about getting involved and creating more welcoming and inclusive communities. This group is open to students of all backgrounds including Canadian Citizens and newcomers currently attending high school. Participants receive eight days of training at the end of the summer and then work together throughout the school year to volunteer at and plan events for pre-teens in the surrounding community. These events are designed to demonstrate what it means to be a leader, how to create respectful relationships with each other, and the importance of honouring and valuing diversity in the community. Participants gain skills in leadership, earn volunteer hours and enhance their employability skills.
